MEREDA 2008 Spring Conference
The Greying of Maine: Real Estate Needs for an Aging Population

November 30, 1999 - 1:00PM
to 5:00PM

University of Southern Maine
Abromson Community Education Center
88 Bedford Street
Portland, ME

This course has been approved for two and three quarter (2.75) hours of legal credits and three (3) hours of broker credits.

About the Event:

The Maine Real Estate & Development Association (MEREDA) is pleased to present its 2008 Real Estate Spring Conference on Thursday, May 15, 2008 from 1:00—5:00 PM at the University of Southern Maine, Abromson Community Education Center, Hannaford Lecture Hall, 88 Bedford Street, Portland, ME.

The Program:

The main goal of this conference is to provide the audience with an overview of how an aging population affects the real estate development industry in Maine. In particular, how an aging population may effect the need/demand for housing, specific types of housing, specific geographic areas in higher demand, healthcare and medical buildings, independent care facilities, assisted living facilities, etc.

Our panelists will share their experiences and thoughts and answer some of the following questions:
  • What are the dynamics behind Maine’s aging population? Are people moving here from outside the state?
  • As for aging Mainers, are they relocating from other geographic areas in the state or staying in their "home towns"?
  • What is the profile of our over 55 population? Do the non-Mainers have a link to Maine? From where are they moving? Income?
  • What are people over 55 looking for in terms of services, housing, location, amenities, etc.? What is appealing about Maine?
  • Are these individuals looking to own or lease?
  • Are they seeking full-service type amenities or more independent-living situations?
  • Where is the future growth in this sector? What will there be a demand for?
  • Where are the "growth" areas?
  • What does it take to be successful in this industry?
We anticipate this being a very interactive Q&A session with the audience and we invite you to come to the seminar prepared to ask questions!
