About the Event:

Buffet Breakfast:  7:30 AM ~ Program:  8:00 9:00 AM

Over the past two years the communities that make up Greater Portland, including Portland, South Portland, Scarborough, Westbrook, Cape Elizabeth and Falmouth have worked in conjunction with the Greater Portland Chamber of Commerce to establish a framework for an organization to facilitate business attraction. In recent weeks each of these communities has agreed to support the formation of the Greater Portland Economic Development Corporation and recruiting for board members of the GPECD has begun.

The formation of the GPEDC follows extensive research and study of both domestic and international “best practices” in economic development conducted by PolicyOne Research among key findings were that successful attraction initiatives were almost invariable conducted by organizations representing a region, not a single municipality.

Over the next several months the GPEDC will be selecting board members to represent specific industry groups from throughout the region and then setting a strategy to leverage the many advantages that Greater Portland has to attract new businesses.

This breakfast event will include representatives from each of the economic development offices in Greater Portland, along with Jim Damicis of PolicyOne Research and Jim Cohen, representing the Portland Regional Chamber.

Join us on Thursday, April 14, 2011 from 7:30 - 9:00 AM at the Portland Regency Hotel, 20 Milk Street, Portland, ME as our presenters discuss the goals of the new organization, and the strategies for business attraction that are currently being developed.
