About the Event:

Buffet Breakfast: 7:30 – 8:00 AM
Program: 8:00 AM – 9:30 AM

Join us on Wednesday, November 9th from 7:30 – 9:00 AM at the Martindale Country Club in Auburn as we invite an architect and an engineer to provide us with a walk through the world of deep energy retrofits.  With so much of Maine developed with aging building stock and the ever increasing cost of utility bills, what is a building owner or developer to do?  This breakfast event will explore the landscape of deep energy retrofits, drilling down into the reasons for a systematic approach in looking at a building’s energy usage and the sort of strategies that an owner or developer can adopt when “tuning up” a building.

Meet the panelists:

David C. Webster, AIA, LEED AP BC+D, co-founded PDT Architects (as Portland Design Team) in 1978 and is currently president and managing partner. In nearly 35 years of designing renovations to old buildings in northern New England, David has amassed considerable expertise in practical techniques for saving energy and lowering heating bills. David researches the benefits and costs of new technologies, guiding his clients through decisions about tightening old buildings while preserving air quality and venting moisture.

David is currently principal-in-charge of the Livermore Falls Medical Arts Building (under construction) and a challenging project to add a third story on top of an existing building at VAMC White River Junction, VT.  His recent work includes the OA Performance Center, a state-of-the-art training and orthopedics facility that transformed an abandoned warehouse in Saco, and 50 Sewall St., Maine’s first LEED-certified office building.

Ian A. MacDonald is Principal and Director of Mechanical Engineering Services at Allied Engineering and is a leader in designing complex HVAC and plumbing systems for large buildings. During his career of over twenty-five years, his work has included buildings for private schools, colleges, universities, healthcare, correctional and industrial uses throughout New England.

Ian is a leader in sustainable design with a strong understanding of green and sustainable design strategies and practices, and corresponding credits in the LEED™ Rating System. Ian has experience using powerful software tools including Carrier HAP, eQuest, Energy Star Portfolio Manager, and System Analyzer that allows for evaluations of the viability and payback of sustainable
strategies including day lighting, heat recovery, extra insulation, etc.
