Join us on Thursday, October 9, 2008 from 7:30 - 9:00 AM at Fish Bones American Grill, 70 Lincoln Street, Lewiston, ME as our panelists discuss hot issues in Maine property tax for businesses including Maine’s new Business Equipment Tax Exemption (BETE), Maine’s Business Equipment Reimbursement Program (BETR), as well as provide tips for determining whether your property is over-valued.

Meet our Panelists:

Before joining Pierce Atwood in 1990, Michael S. Wilson practiced with the national law firm of Hunton & Williams in Richmond, Virginia. His nearly 18 years of experience has involved a varied practice. Michael has experience in corporate, commercial and real property litigation in federal and state courts and before administrative agencies. His litigation experience includes employee benefits litigation, state and local tax litigation, and state and local tax advice.

Michael also is a certified public accountant and has several years of public accounting experience with a Big Six firm. His legal skills and accounting background combine to bring unique expertise to each matter including, in particular, complex litigation matters.

Jonathan A. Block is the practice group leader for the State and Local Tax Group at Pierce Atwood. He also practices federal tax law. He has substantial experience in handling state and local tax disputes in Maine and New Hampshire as well as providing transactional planning and advice, and he has been significantly involved in designing, drafting, and advocating important state tax legislation.

Jon also advises new and expanding businesses with respect to maximizing state and local economic development incentives. In particular, Jon advises taxpayers with respect to the Maine Pine Tree Development Zone Program, Maine’s Property Tax Reimbursement Program (BETR) and Maine's Business Equipment Exemption, and has significant expertise in many other Maine tax incentive programs.
